It's no secret that the last 5 years have been quite intense around here. Sometimes when life becomes heavy it's hard to find your funny bone. That's not to say there hasn't been lots of good times amongst the bad it just means the laughter has been sporadic and I desire it to be a constant around here. So this weekend how tickled I was when Sean and I burst out into uncontrollable laughter! Ohhh, it was good medicine! Ryan had no idea what in the world was going on and that just made us laugh more! LOL! Seriously. We laughed until we cried and then we started all over again. My stomach was sore from laughing so much and my face was blotchy from the laughing/crying episode but let me tell you what....I never felt better!! Even now, when Sean and I mention that one simple word it sends us over the edge into gales of laughter. Now that truly is good times my friends. GOOD TIMES!!! :)
Sean and the guys are between jobs right now and so Zachary has been helping me with odd jobs here around the house. It has been a HUGE blessing to me! Leaves I never finished raking are finally removed, a campfire pit has been built, a shed sorted and organized (Hallelujah!) and best of all, my Old Rugged Cross is erected! Isn't it terrific?! I've been wanting to build one since watching the Fireproof movie. Zack situated it so I can see it when I look out the window over my kitchen sink. :) He outdid himself on it. He really roughed up the wood and even burnt it to give it that ruggedness I love. There are nail marks in it too. As Zachary carried the cross to set it up Kyalynn kept saying, "look, it's Jesus the Christ, yes it is". LOL! The kids love visiting the cross and this morning Connor was excited to tell me that he was praying at the cross and talking with Jesus. So glad. Adored by his children, treasured by his wife, respected by his peers, and humble servant of the Most High God. I am so proud of you Sean. Thank you for being who you are....a SUPER DADDY!!!! We love you with all our hearts.....your biggest fans!! xoxoxoxox
Yesterday was Nolan's 2nd Gotcha Day and we celebrated by setting up this cute Frog Pool he received for his birthday. Thanks mom and dad!! He wasn't so sure about it but warmed up enough to get in and check it out. :) Will he eat me? Watching the sides of his mouth.....frogs are quick ya know. LOL! Ok momma, it's safe. Come on in. Whoa. Check out these eyes. Oh yeah, I forgot there's water in here. A boy and his frog.....simply delightful!! Happy Gotcha Day sweet boy. We love you BIG-BIG-BIG!!!
Sean caught Samuel T and I enjoying a swing in the hammock and snuck some pictures of us. I love them! If you look at Sam's mouth you'll see he was a cooing away at me and smiling too. We were having a grand time just a swinging!
As we sat at lunch daddy and mommy told you your story again and we relived those first moments, days, weeks and months with you. You were transfixed listening to your story. Although you've heard it many, many times (and can tell it yourself!) you still love to hear it. This will be another moment cemented into my mind....you laughing, giggling and begging to hear your story again. It's so amazing to me how God can bring together these individuals from very different circumstances and knit them into a family. Only God could do that. Since you've entered our lives our world has been changed. We have been rocked to our core and found God there. We have found a new level of intimacy in our faith and our marriage due to hanging on with all we have. We have learned what God's love really looks like....unconditional.....and how very hard that is to do, in our own flesh. We have fallen deeply in love with a boy that due to no fault of his own is deep…
In just a matter of days Connor will be celebrating his 5th "Gotcha Day" with us. Honestly, my emotions about it are very mixed. On one hand I'm thankful to be celebrating this milestone because it wasn't too long ago I didn't think we'd be celebrating any more "Gotcha Days" with Connor. Thankful that God saw us through and continues to carry us. Thankful that our family is still intact (RAD is hard on the whole family!) Thankful that God has enough belief in us to parent this child. Thankful for those little glimmers of hope we see in him as we journey this path.
On the other hand, I'm sad. Sad for all the loss, heartache, and pain we, as a family, have had to endure because of this disease. Sad that some of our dreams for Connor have had to die because he just won't be able to achieve them bar a miracle from God. Sad that many of our days are tainted with lies, disobedience and aggression from this child. Sad that our bond of trust in him …
At W*lmart yesterday I found this sprinkler for $8.00. It is the coolest thing. It has this main line and then lots of little lines that wiggle and waggle. The kids started asking to play in it first thing this morning. I finally gave in around 10:30 and although the water was f.r.e.e.z.i.n.g. cold they loved it!! Well, all except Kyalynn who kept her distance. LOL!
I can see hours of fun to come with this sprinkler. I love their facial expressions and the giggles were endless. Precious indeed!
I recently read the book "Walk Like You Have Somewhere To Go" by Lucille O'Neal as a book reviewer for Thomas Nelson Publishers. They graciously gave me the book for free to review. Thank You Thomas Nelson!
This book embodies hope in the face of hopelessness. It proves that with God "all things ARE possible". A book that leaves you feeling encouraged and empowered to keep putting one foot in front of the other and never give up.
Lucille O' Neal may be most well known as the mother of Shaq, (Shaquille O'Neal), the NBA superstar but she has so many other facets to her life just as brilliant as that of her shining star son! Here's a woman that has clung desperately to God through the ups and downs of a traumatic childhood, teenage pregnancy, loss, betrayal and rampant alcoholism. She readily admits that these things kept her mind in a state of "Mental Welfare" and stuck in a state of hopelessness. It wasn't until she was ready to change …
